On January 29, the Authority Members approved a cost-recovery initiative that is expected to generate approximately $60 million a year for the self-supporting agency and help offset the costs of operating the E-ZPass system. As part of this initiative, E-ZPass administrative changes are effective July 1 as follows:
• E-ZPass Discount Plan duration reduced from 60 days to 45 days
• E-ZPass Monthly Account Maintenance Fee: $1.50 per month per account
• E-ZPass transponder fee for new customers and replacement devices: $21 (interior and exterior license plate), $33 (roof-mount), $40 (fusion)
• Notice of Toll Due Fee: $3 for each unpaid toll transaction + toll due
• Administrative Fee (for failure to pay Notice of Toll Due): increases from $15 to $25
• For Bay Bridge ticket customers: Shoppers and Travelers ticket sales end June 30. The last day to accept Shoppers Tickets will be shown on the ticket book. The date will be on or before December 31, 2009. The Authority is creating an E-ZPass Shoppers Plan that offers the same percentage discount as the Shoppers Tickets.
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MdTA) is committed to creating easy passage throughout Maryland – which is why we offer motorists E-ZPass, an electronic system that removes cash, coins and toll tickets from the toll-collection process. E-ZPass makes toll payment more convenient for thousands of motorists every day.
When you enroll in E-ZPass, you pay tolls in advance by way of a small electronic device, called a transponder, which you attach to your vehicle’s windshield. As you travel, the transponder transmits information and each toll you owe is automatically deducted from your account as your vehicle passes through the toll plaza.

Enrolling in E-ZPass online is easy, but some E-ZPass customers find it even easier to pick up an E-ZPass “On the Go.” E-ZPass “On the Go” is a packaged E-ZPass transponder loaded with $25 in toll funds. (The first $15 is available immediately, and customers can access the remaining $10 when they register their transponder with E-ZPass Maryland online, by phone, or in person, within seven days of first using it.) E-ZPass “On the Go” is available at all Mars Supermarkets, Annapolis-area Giant Food Stores and central Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration sites.
